THE children at Rose Garden Childcare in Endeavour Hills visited their neighbours at View Hills Manor last week as part of the childcare’s enrichment program.
In the first of their monthly visits to the residents of the manor, centre director Sally Manczal said the children spent about half an hour with them and had a fantastic time.
“They sang songs to them, some of which were accompanied with actions,” Ms Manczal said.
“Every child did a little painting on a canvas and they gave them to each of the residents.”
The exercise hopes to raise community awareness for the children and help them form friendships with the elderly so that the children gain not only valuable knowledge, but also learn important life virtues such as compassion, generosity, respect and kindness.
The residents at View Hills Manor also had a great time with the children.
“They were very excited about the visit and were talking about it for days,” Ms Manczal said.
“They sang a song to the children too and they’re going to learn some songs to sing to them next time.”
The Rose Garden Childcare enrichment program helps children feel a sense of community connectedness and belonging by promoting integration and acceptance.
The children are encouraged to explore the community, learn about the people who reside in it and sometimes provide a service to others.
“The children can’t wait to go back for another visit,” Ms Manczal said.
