Ready to serve

By Lia Bichel
VOLUNTEERS at Narre Warren North Primary School will have increased training in food services thanks to a grant from the State Government.
The school is the latest organisation to receive a $3750 volunteer grant, which will be used to fund online training in handling, storing, preparing and serving food, as well as to offer volunteers who work within the school the opportunity to complete a Food Supervisors certificate.
South East Metropolitan Region MP Gordon Rich-Phillips said the school was a particularly deserved recipient of the funding because of their commitment to promoting community volunteer involvement.
“Volunteers at Narre Warren North Primary do a fantastic job in supporting the school community and in helping provide kids with fun opportunities to extend their education,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
“The grant will provide the school with the funds required to train food supervisors to work within special school volunteering programs, such as the ‘Friday Cooking Lessons’ program,” he said.
Principal Connie vanderVoort said the funding was very beneficial in recognising volunteers and creating a positive learning environment for students.
“We have so many parent volunteers at the school, and with this money, we hope to develop their food handling skills and help pay for courses, and we also want to use it to provide them with T-shirts which they can wear during school events and for certificates to thank them for their effort,” Ms vanderVoort said.
