Comets bask in Prins’

By Gavin Staindl
A HAT-TRICK to Nicola Prins has given the Casey Comets their first win of the Victorian Premier League season.
Prins scored three goals in 15 minutes midway through the first half as the Comets coasted to a 3-0 victory over VCL Country at Darebin on Sunday.
Comets coach Ian Williamson said he had given her “a bit of stick” throughout the week but admits she has worked hard and deserved the three goals on the weekend.
After a draw and a loss from their opening two games, Williamson said his side had noticeably improved over the three weeks.
“Our supply forward is getting more consistent and the penetration is more repetitive as well,” Williamson said.
“We were well on top in the overall pattern of play… we went there needing to do a job and we did it.
“It was a workmanlike win.”
The Comets are hoping to build on their performance when they host the Premier League’s newest member, the Doncaster Rovers, this Sunday.
The Rovers have only managed a draw from their first three games, meaning the Comets will go in as heavy favourites.
“The win on the weekend certainly does a lot for our confidence,” Williamson said.
“We are looking forward to playing the Rovers and are quite confident about it.
“We will be the type of side that will have other sides looking over their shoulders just because we can be competitive for the full 90 minutes.”
