Naked gardening exposed

By Lia Bichel
AN ELDERLY Berwick man is urging locals to shed their clothes and get dirty in the garden this weekend.
Geoffrey, 82, who asked us not to use his surname, read about World Naked Gardening Day on the internet and has been participating in the event for four years. He said he was looking forward to participating again this Saturday.
“It’s fun and I get a great feeling of freedom and joy from it,” he said.
Geoffrey, who lives in a retirement village, grows herbs as well as a lemon tree and lime tree.
He said no-one can see him doing his gardening, so he hasn’t had any complaints about baring it all in the garden or even making a nude dash to the mailbox before his morning shower.
“I think it’s silly to put on clothes just to get the paper,” he said.
Geoffrey said the weather on Saturday is supposed to be about 17 degrees – perfect for naked gardening. “It won’t be too cold and it won’t be too sunny – you don’t want it to be too sunny.
“It’s also a great opportunity to top up your vitamin D before the winter.”
If you plan to participate, just be careful with the hedge-clippers.
