Change is in the air

HOME and community care clients and their families can learn to deal with the impact of climate change at an information session next month.
The City of Casey is hosting the event in Hampton Park which will include a presentation from Casey’s Climate Change and Energy Officer on how to reduce energy use and save money on power bills.
The City of Casey’s Environmental Education Officer will be on hand to discuss how to get started with growing your own food.
Mission Australia’s Community Engagement and Transitional Support Worker will also attend and provide information about the Greener Futures Program, which is a service for eligible applicants that arranges the installation of free products in homes to help save on electricity water and heating bills.
Participants of Greener Futures can receive energy efficient enhancements for their home such as the installation of drought reducing products to keep their home warmer in winter and cooler in summer, sealing off small cracks in the main heated room, replacement of light bulbs with longer lasting energy saving bulbs to save electricity and installation of new water-saving shower heads.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Shar Balmes encouraged local Home and Community Care clients to attend the information session.
“Events like this are a great way to assist residents to reduce energy use and save money on power bills,” she said.
This session is one of a range of initiatives in line with council’s sustainability plan which aims to help the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The session will be held on Friday 10 June at Uniting Place, 1 Coral Drive, Hampton Park, from 2pm until 3.30pm. Anyone interested in attended must RSVP by 6 June to the City of Casey on 9705 5444. Transport may be provided, but please inquire at the time of RSVP.
