CHILDREN and parents are set to benefit from a federal government funding towards family support.
Federal Government’s Family Support Program announced funding for the continuation of programs at Christians Helping in Primary Schools (CHIPS) and Windermere Child and Family Services until 30 June 2014.
Windermere Child and Family Services will receive $2,475,000 and CHIPS will receive $84,408.
CHIPS runs innovative programs such as Life Gets Better camps for children and their carers who have experienced major grief, divorce or loss.
Props such as the bright and witty puppets are an vital part of these camps to spread important messages to participants.
CHIPS managing director Eric Wieckmann welcomed the funding and said it was an investment to continue services like the camp program and intensive support to at risk children and families.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne said it was important to support socially isolated children and families by providing a helping hand and facilitating better access to support.
“I am pleased to see that the invaluable children and family programs such as the Life Gets Better camps can continue to help families navigate transitions in life and strengthen their relationships,” Mr Byrne said.
Through the Family Support Program, the Government funds community organisations to deliver services like parenting skills training, playgroups, relationship counselling and post-separation support.
