Berwick on song

By Gavin Staindl
A ROUSING rendition of Meatloaf and a Friday night full of laughs has been cited as one of the reasons behind Berwick’s stunning comeback win on Sunday.
Berwick striker Karl Cochrane’s rendition of “Paradise by a Dashboard Light” led the fun-filled night that Berwick coach Tom O’Halloran said helped to ease the tensions created by an inconsistent start to the season.
Berwick may as well be singing “Two out of Three ain’t Bad” after they won their second game in three weeks with a 3-2 win over North Caulfield at Caulfield Park.
Berwick took a 1-0 lead early in the second half through James Ashby but two quick replies left the visitors in an all too familiar position.
“When we go down, our heads drop … it’s been like that all year,” O’Halloran said. “When sitting 3-5, the easiest thing to do is accept it. But we knuckled down and found a bit of grit.
“A little bit of luck also went our way, which doesn’t normally happen and I think we turned a corner on Sunday.”
To the surprise of the coach, not only did Berwick summon the strength to equalise, but they also scored a third to steal the game.
“I think little things are changing, we’re getting a bit of luck and we’re getting good team morale coming out of it,” O’Halloran said.
“We have been a bit of a yo-yo and we haven’t played to the level I know we can, but if this is where we are sitting at the moment, imagine how good we’ll be when we get our confidence back.”
