Model ambition

THE next Megan Gale or Jennifer Hawkins may be residing in the City of Casey.
Aspiring model Jacinda Dewit, 13, is in the running to win the 21st Annual Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search, which was launched last month.
After sending her picture into Girlfriend magazine, the judges asked the Hallam teenager to compete in the model competition road show when it hits Westfield Doncaster on 13 July.
Jacinda said she was ecstatic to be chosen as a contender in nation’s longest-running modelling competition which has helped launch the careers of Aussie models Alyssa Sutherland, Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Ruby Rose and Samantha Harris.
“I am really excited. I have been reading up on tips on how to walk, how to act and how to prepare myself for the questions judges will ask,” she said.
Jacinda’s mother Michelle said the competition had a number of benefits for young women.
“It’s such a great opportunity,” she said.
“It gives Jacinda a goal to work towards, helps improve her self-confidence which is a huge issue for teenage girls, and helps her focus on herself. Jacinda is very tall for her age but has learned it could help her, not hinder her.”
Jacinda agreed.
“I have learned to embrace (my height),” she said.
“It makes me who I am.”
Jacinda, who lists Miranda Kerr as her inspiration, said she looked forward to the competition and urged other girls her age to think about entering the search.
“I think it’s really good. It helps girls to become confident with who they are,” she said.
Jacinda said she hoped to one day pursue a career in modelling, or become a pastry chef, or do both.
Girlfriend, together with sponsors Rimmel London, CHIC Management and Blue Juice, will tour all major capital cities over the coming months in the search to find healthy, confident girls that are ready to make their dream a reality.
All teenage girls over the age of 13 can enter the competition by attending one of the model search locations, entering online at girlfriend.com.au or completing an entry form published in the June issues of Girlfriend magazine. Entries close at 5pm on 10 June.
