THEY are heads and tails above the rest- and they proved it on national television.
KLD X-Treme All Star Cheerleading and Dance made the semi-finals of popular television show Australia’s Got Talent for their flawless, energetic routines.
The 24 cheerleaders of KLD X-Treme, which offers classes in Narre Warren and in Knoxfield, are aged between 9 and 18.
They were scouted in January, and asked to audition for the show, where they received a standing ovation from celebrity judges Kyle Sandilands, Danni Minogue and Brian McFadden as well as a spot in the semi-finals.
The group did not make the grand-finals, but Coach Kerryn Brimmer said the cheerleaders were still buzzing from the experience.
“For the group to make it as far as they did is exciting. It was such a fantastic opportunity for them,” she said.
“We have been getting so many calls and requests for the girls to perform.”
Ms Brimmer said the television show was a good opportunity for the cheerleaders to showcase the sport to Australians.
“A lot of people think cheerleading is just standing on the side-lines of a basketball court with pom-poms, but it’s so much more than that,” she said.
“It involves stunts and tumbling and so much more. It is the fastest growing sport in Australia for children.”
Ms Brimmer said many children have been inspired by KLD X-Treme’s Air Force team on Australia’s Got Talent and want to start cheerleading. For further information, phone 0419 529 928 or visit www.xtremeallstars.com.au
