Coach spits dummy

INJURED Casey Comet Alex Gummer was not sticking around for the post-match speeches when the side lost to Altona on Sunday … because she knew exactly what was going to be served up.
The lifeless Comets were dragged into the changerooms at full time and handed some “home truths” after a disappointing 2-1 loss to Altona at HC Kim Reserve.
“They played like babies,” coach Ian Williamson said.
“They have got to start taking responsibility for their performances.
“The way they go up and down is childish and we are top of the league, so they have to live with the fact that teams are out to beat the Comets and that every week we have to be on the top of our game.”
Casey went into the half level at 1-1, but fell behind within 15 minutes of the second half after Altona’s Katia Tavolaro chipped the keeper.
Despite generating decent shots at goal, Casey lacked urgency to score an equaliser.
Even in the dying minutes, Comet players trudged over to the touchline to take a throw in and twice in 30 seconds crosses were sent in to the box only for the ball to bounce away because players were caught spectating.
“I was very, very frustrated,” Williamson said.
“It was pathetic.
“Even those on the bench were saying how we lacked in commitment, urgency and heart.
“But I think they will bounce back (and) I think we can finish first because the other sides have still got to beat us … we are still a really good side.”
