Bowling along on fresh green

EAGER bowlers gathered in Narre Warren on Saturday to celebrate the sport and the opening of a new synthetic green.
A large crowd watched as Casey councillors Bob Halsall and Sam Aziz bowled the first jack and bowl to mark the opening of the summer bowls season at the Narre Warren Bowls Club.
Immediate past president Judith Naughton also officially opened the newly constructed synthetic green, which was installed under a contract managed by the City of Casey. Trialed for several months, it provides an excellent playing surface in all weather conditions.
Regional board member Judith Thorpe presented the club’s senior member, Truss Hennerman with a Veterans Badge during the event.
President Kieran Fitzsimons said the club was enjoying positive growth mostly due to newly extended clubrooms, the lighting of the greens and the installation of an excellent synthetic green and a drought tolerant tifdwarf grass green.
The Narre Warren Bowls Club is located in Magid Drive Narre Warren adjacent to the Westfield Shopping Complex.
People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to try bowls. Coaching is free. For more information phone 8790 5824. A major Try Bowls Day, and associated sausage sizzle, will be held at the club on the morning of 23 October.
