Kids help out

VICTORIAN Certificate of Applied Learning students at the Narre Warren South P-12 College have raised $3000 for charity as part of their Personal Developments Project.
Cheques for $1500 were presented to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Tyler Fishlock, who lost his eyesight to cancer, at the school assembly last week.
The money was raised through various events, including a football day and a crazy hair day.
Assistant principal Rob Duncan said this year’s fundraiser was very successful, and added to the total of $30,000 that has been raised since 2006.
“Over the last few years they’ve given Tyler more than $12,000 which has helped get his braille machine,” he said.
“We recognise Tyler every year and work with a different group every year.”
He said the 90 VCAL students really enjoyed the project, which is beneficial for not only the charities, but also to the students themselves.
“It’s the most significant thing they’ll do in their lives at school and they get to see they can make a difference to people,” Mr Duncan said.
“The Make-A-Wish foundation was ecstatic – they spoke to the kids about how they could use the money and the joy it would bring to kids that are suffering.
“I’m really proud of the staff and the kids for the effort they put in.”
