No clues in plaza murder

A BERWICK man was fatally stabbed in the Dandenong Plaza carpark last week.
Detective Inspector John Potter said the man was stabbed just before 11pm on Tuesday 6 September before falling or being thrown from the second level of the Myer carpark.
“The deceased was involved in some sort of incident on level two of the carpark and has fallen or been thrown to ground level,” he said.
“There is an extensive amount of blood in the area.”
The victim, a 20-year-old man, is from Berwick although his name has not been released by Victoria Police.
A teenager, who knew the victim, alerted a passing patrol car to the scene just before 11pm and was helping police with inquiries.
There were no suspects, other witnesses or weapon found.
“We’re examining the whole area, the carpark and nearby reserve, and we’re hoping to find something,” Detective Potter said.
“We don’t know exactly what happened, leading up to the incident. We are not sure of the weapon used.”
Detective Insp Potter said police were investigating whether a knife or glass bottle was used in the attack.
The post mortem and extensive CCTV footage would assist in determining what happened. Police are also investigating a possible link to an earlier brawl between Sudanese youth near the Dandenong Library which was dispersed by police around 8.30pm.
“About two hours prior to this, there was some sort of melee in the vicinity of the library which involved about 10-15 youths,” Det Insp Potter said.
“We don’t know if it is connected – it may be.”
“We’re asking anyone involved in the incident who may know something to contact police.”
Anyone with information about the incident, or earlier fight, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
