Talking on transport

CASEY commuters are invited to voice their transport concerns to the council before a Public Transport Forum next month.
The future of the Monash Freeway and public transport in Melbourne’s outer south east will be the focus of the Better Roads, Better Buses, Better Trains forum on 16 November which will be hosted by the City of Casey to raise awareness of the transport issues being faced in the region.
Representatives from VicRoads and the Department of Transport, State MPs, local business owners and community leaders will gather to discuss future road and transport opportunities for Melbourne’s outer south east.
City of Casey Mayor Cr Shar Balmes said the council would be advocating strongly on behalf of residents for better transport outcomes and urged residents to submit questions or comments regarding roads and transport in the region which would be presented for consideration at the forum.
“Transport is definitely a priority for council, with state road improvements, the improved capacity to Monash Freeway (Hallam Bypass) and extended and enhanced bus services being at the top of Council’s 2011-’12 advocacy priorities,” Cr Balmes said.
“Melbourne’s outer south east is facing numerous transport challenges as the region’s population grows and there is an urgent need to improve the capacity of the Monash Freeway (Hallam Bypass), bus services and the public transport network to ensure they keep pace with the increasing population and community expectations.”
To submit a comment or question, please visit Casey Council’s dedicated community consultation portal, Casey Conversations, atwww.caseyconversations.com.au/transportforum by Friday 11 November.
