POLICE have warned residents to avoid taking matters into their own hands after a man was bashed in Narre Warren last week.
Police said the man, 33, was kicked, punched and stomped on by a group of youths after he confronted them for walking over his car which was parked in Richardson Street.
About 2.30am on 5 January, the man was woken up by voices of people in his street. He looked out his window and saw about six men were walking over his car.
Police said the man got in his car and followed the group to the corner of Richardson Street and Princes Highway. He got out of his car and had a verbal altercation with the group.
Police said one of the men grabbed him, pushed him into the fence and punched him, another man punched him in the ribs and another man pushed him to the ground and punched him in the head.
“He was thrown to the ground, kicked and stomped on and punched to back of the head,” Detective Senior Constable Anthony Williams said.
The man received multiple abrasions to his back, had a swollen and bruised left eye, facial cuts, sore ribs and small cuts to his feet.
Det Sen Con Williams urged people not to take matters into their own hands and try to avoid confrontations with potentially dangerous people.
“Just call the police,” Det Sen Con Williams said.
All six men were described as being Caucasian. One man was described as about 5’7, aged 17 or 18 and he was wearing a dark coloured singlet, shorts, thongs and smelt of alcohol. Another man was described as about 5’8, aged 17 or 18, thin, curly collar length hair and was wearing a blue baseball cap backwards, shorts and blue shoes.
Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Detective Senior Constable Anthony Williams at Narre Warren Police Station on 9705 3111.
