Narre Warren teams run hot

THE Narre Warren Bowls Club played host to the President’s Day tournament last Sunday with 16 teams of four players competing in temperatures that hovered in the mid-30s.
Teams from Berwick, Cardinia Waters, Chadstone, Clayton, Cockatoo, Cowes, Hampton Park, Keysborough, Karingal, Trafalgar, Pakenham, Narre Warren and a team from Yarram, which included the inaugural president of the Narre Warren Bowls Club Bob Roff, took part in the day.
Chris Christoffersen’s team from Berwick won on the day with Peter Unwin’s team from Clayton runner-up. Last game winner was Ian Anderson’s team from Pakenham. Congratulations to all the winning teams and thanks must go to all the teams who participated on a very hot day.
A wonderful lunch was enjoyed by all and thanks must go to the hard working team of volunteers in the kitchen. Despite the heat and it was enjoyable to catch up with former members who have moved on to other clubs and to welcome visitors for the first time.
Saturday pennant provided Narre Warren with two wins and a tie on a day where team’s kept their finals aspirations alive.
Division three travelled to Keysborough with high hopes of a win to keep their finals hopes alive and returned with a win 97/80. The race for a spot in the finals is very close with Narre holding on to fourth spot by just three points.
E. Veraga, S. Belcher, P. O’Day and skipper G. Manifold lost 21/22. G. Cadman, R. Hoare, B. Brewster and skipper J. Parker won 24/19. L. Klarica, W. Harringsma, K. Mark and skipper I. Brotherton won 27/13. S. Bell, M. Graham, A. Kidd and skipper R. Lane won 25/16.
Division five hosted Caulfield Park and had a remarkable day running out easy winners (113/47) by 66 shots with all rinks up. The result means Narre move into second spot on the ladder with two games left for the regular season.
J. Dukats, J. Green, K. Davis and skipper N. Hosmer won 34/5. M. Rudelic, J. Zanon, J. Sheahan and skipper M. Horton won 27/9. J. Van Hout, G. Miller, R. Pigdon and skip S. Lapham won 18/17. N. Bell, J. Hickman, S. Robinson and skip P. Castricum won 34/16.
Division seven currently sit in fifth position and played the second-placed Murrumbeena and after an even battle all day the result was decided on the last end of the day. The tied game (84/84) was a great effort by the team, which still has a chance to sneak into fourth place on the ladder.
C. Lapham, J. Scanlan, B. Potter and skipper J. Schwennesen lost 14/22. J. Norman, K. Shell, P. Rouse and skipper G. Moxey won 27/17. L. McGeary, A. Fitt, R. Pompe and skipper S. Birkett lost 16/23. L. O’Brien, H. McCombe, A. Tobler and skip D. Rosario won 21/12.
The Tuesday pennant team had a disappointing day. After coming off the high of the past two weeks they lost to a very strong team from Armadale by 42 shots (39/81).
