Bagpipes lift the spirits

By Danny Buttler
BERWICK’S Akoonah Park rang to the sounds of bagpipes and marching drums during last weekend’s Highland Gathering.
Despite weather that ranged from chilly to hot, the annual event attracted hundreds of people keen to get a taste of Scotland.
The droning of the bagpipes sent a shiver down the spine, while the marching drums lifted spirits across the park.
Scottish dancers whirled, twirled and skipped through their routines to the delight of the crowd.
Down at ground level, the flyball dogs thrilled the crowd with their amazing feats of agility, stamina and speed.
A vintage car display was also popular on the day.
The Rotary Club of Narre Warren organised the event, with many volunteer hours needed to ensure it was the great day that it turned out to be.
Breast cancer survivor Amanda Ghiradello opened the games and helped raise awareness of her fund raising trip to Mt Everest base camp.
