Nominated for bravery

A PAKENHAM police officer will nominate the Narre Warren teen who rescued a young girl seconds before she was hit by a train last week for a bravery award.
Sergeant Richard Dawson said he was preparing a report for the Royal Humane Society, putting local hero Daniel Grulke forward for a medal.
The Royal Humane Society recognises acts of bravery within Australia, by people who risk their own lives in saving or attempting to save the lives of others.
Sgt Dawson labelled the St Francis Xavier College student a hero and said it was the first time in his 16 years in the police force that an act of bravery had moved him to take action.
“I think he definitely deserves some recognition for his actions – he went above and beyond,” Sgt Dawson said.
Last Tuesday afternoon at about 4.30pm, Narre Warren South 17-year-old Daniel Grulke risked his own life to save a young girl standing on the train tracks at Beaconsfield Station.
He made the split-second decision to jump off the platform and push the girl, aged about 15, off the tracks “with about five seconds to spare”.
Following his extraordinary rescue last week, Daniel said that he didn’t feel like a hero.
“…anyone else in my position would’ve done the same thing,” he said.
