A MOTHER of three said it was lucky seven people were not dead after two cars collided to avoid a flying axe.
Narre Warren South resident Violeta Atanasovska said that about 6.15pm on Saturday her family of five were driving on Princes Highway and was about 200metres from the Hallam/Belgrave Road when a axe flew from a trailer being towed by a car in front of them.
Mrs Atanasovska was sitting in the backseat with two of their children and one of her children was sitting in the front passenger seat.
Her husband, Kire, swerved their car to avoid the axe, which was headed towards the passenger seat, and in doing so, hit a car next to them.
Mrs Atanasovska said the axe still hit the car and missed the windscreen by less than one centimetre.
“The cars involved were (us) in a green commodore and a white 4×4. We didn’t get any details of the car and the trailer,” she said.
“Seven people, including three kids, could have died because someone was irresponsible and didn’t secure their things.”
Mrs Atanasovska said she believed there were witnesses to the accident and asked them to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police from Endeavour Hills Police Station said motorist should make sure items in their trailers were properly secured.
