And you thought The Beatles were big …
IT’S hard to tell who would have received a better response from the masses – The Beatles, or Karise Eden.
Few at Westfield Fountain Gate yesterday would have been old enough to remember the days of Beatlemania and screaming teenage girls – but they got more than a dose of it as Karise wowed the crowd.
Hundreds and possibly thousands flocked to the shopping centre to get a glimpse of the first winner of reality TV series ‘The Voice’.
It would seem even the star herself was shocked at the number of people in attendance, letting out an exclamation of surprise when she took her spot on the stage.
The crowd couldn’t be contained as the singer came into view, with young girls shouting ‘I love you Karise’ and others simply standing still in awe.
After singing a number of her recent hits, it was time for the fans to meet their idol.
The closer the crowd got, the more the anticipation grew, with a common quote from fans being, ‘we’re so close now,’ or ‘I’m so nervous’.
However what was a huge deal for some was taken all in the stride of the 19-year-old pop star, signing autographs and hugging excited children.
With many just a fan of her voice, some admired her for other reasons as well.
Being a state ward that grew up in more than 20 refuges, people listen to her not only for her voice, but for the meaning behind the lyrics as well.
“I can identify with her story,” Pam from Geelong said.
Others were inspired by her because she is ‘real.’
“She has gotten through life and just dealt with it,” 15-year-old Jazmine said.
With the entrance to the queue being blocked off after its length began getting out of hand, others already in line weren’t going to let anything stop their meet and greet with Karise.
Jam-packing themselves between the barriers, star-struck fans squeezed themselves against one another in order to guarantee themselves a signature from Karise.
“The queue is the downfall but the atmosphere is great,” Cranbourne resident Sharon said.
Others who attended were simply fascinated by the individuality of her voice.
“She has a unique and soulful voice,” said Narre Warren resident Suzie.
Even the younger age-group of fans appreciate the talent of this singer.
“She is different from all the rest and her voice is amazing,” 14-year-old Niamh from Narre Warren said.
