HAMPTON Park year 10 students committed to the No Dole policy when they
participated in the Beacon Foundations charter signing on Tuesday.
The Beacon Foundation No Dole program promotes and inspires students
to stay in school or take positive steps towards skill development and training to enable further education or employment.
Careers practitioner Bev Dawes said the day was a great success thanks to the Beacon Foundation and the events organiser, Robyn Cardamone.
“We had a number of local employers who visit the day to listen to speakers
and support our students.
“A pledge board was signed by the students, which is a commitment to further education and the employers signed it, too,” Miss Dawes said.
Past Olympian and AIME mentor Kyle Vander Kuyp and paralympian Sam Bramham also visited the school to speak to students about keeping their life on track.
“I think the speech from Sam was a highlight,” Miss Dawes said.
“And the enthusiasm and interest of the students to participate in the day was a
highlight.”
The program is the start of the year 10’s careers program, which will lead up to course counselling.
“We hope to encourage students to continue their education and to set goals,” Miss Dawes said.
Students who attended the signing received a cupcake in the school colours at the end of the event and large cake was cut and shared by the Beacon representative.
