EACH night her little fingers work hard to line up the fabric, press the button and fix the elastic to the backings.
His slightly bigger hands also work hard to make sure every thing is perfect.
It’s not every day you see a young brother and sister working so well together, but they are both so driven to make a difference.
Berwick’s six-year-old Charlette Hocking and brother William are learning about charity and giving, and having fun doing it.
The two make hair ties and sell them for $1.50, with all proceeds going to Very Special Kids.
Their proud mum Nicolette said Charlette first got the idea of making hair ties because one of her older friends was making them.
“I said to her we could make them but money made by selling them had to go to charity,” Nicolette said.
“So we went online and she chose the charity. She actually said she wanted to help kids with cancer, to buy them toys.”
Both Charlette and William race home to get started making more hair ties to keep up with demand.
They have already sold 150 and have orders coming in from classmates and Charlette’s dance teacher.
“I like making them,” Charlette said,
“My favourite ones are the ones with the cheese and the mouse – because I like cheese.”
“They are pretty easy to make,” William said.
“So I help make them too.”
Later this year Nicolette said she would take the kids down to Very Special Kids to present them with a cheque.
“I think it’s important that they see it to the end, do the work, sell them and then actually take the money to them,” she said.
“I just think it’s important that we teach them to give when they are younger.”
