A LOCAL mental health association has been honoured for their achievements at a special event recently.
Eastern Region Mental Health Association (Ermha) was highly commended in the prestigious Health Leaders Award category at the 2012 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.
Ermha is a community based organisation that supports recovery and instils hope for people who are experiencing the effects of a severe mental illness.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich said Ermha’s MadCap Cafes in Fountain Gate and Geelong were an outstanding example of innovative healthcare leadership.
“The initiative aims to create rehabilitation pathways and support services. Ermha’s MadCap Cafes are an excellent example of an initiative that can assist people who are experiencing a mental illness who want to enter, or re-enter, the workforce.” Ms Peulich said.
Ms Peulich said the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards illustrated the breadth of innovation and quality in Victorian healthcare.
“This is our foremost occasion for celebrating the leadership, innovation and excellence that makes our hospitals and public and primary care systems the best they can be,” Ms Peulich said.
MadCap Café Project Manager Anthony Cheeseman said he was proud to be part of a great organisation and thrilled they were recognised at a prestigious event.
“Ermha and MadCap couldn’t survive without each other – they complement each other,” he said.
“It’s great we got recognition that we are doing really great work. It’s great to be nominated beside some fantastic organisation.”
