WOMEN in Casey are encouraged to be active and have fun for a good cause this weekend.
Four women from Fernwood Gym in Narre Warren have joined forces to complete the Oxfam Trailwalker, from Jells Park in Wheelers Hill to Wesburn Park in the Yarra Valley, in 48 hours or less on 19 April.
Joy Drake, the manager of Fernwood Gym, will be joined by Barb Lamb, Emily Cooper, and Jessica Bull for the April challenge but this Saturday, they will be holding a fundraiser at the gym to raise money for the event.
It is compulsory for the group to raise $1000, but they hope to beat their efforts last year when they raised about $3000.
Money raised will go towards Oxfam, an organisation helping disadvantaged people overseas.
Ms Drake said it was her fourth year participating in the event.
“It’s such a great organisation to be involved with,” Ms Drake said.
“It’s also a good challenge and it keeps you fit.”
Ms Drake encouraged women, aged 14 and over, to attend the fundraiser.
It is a Classathon which starts at 8am and includes 30 minute sessions of a variety of classes including Body Pump, Body Attach, Yogalates, Boxing, Cycle and CX Worx.
She said people can attend all classes or take breaks in-between.
It is open to women aged 14 and over. It cost a $10 donation for non-members and includes fruit salad for breakfast, raffles and giveaways. It goes from 8am until 1pm.
