Printing professionals gather

UPCOMING professionals in the publishing and printing industry will be celebrated at the annual Herb Thomas Memorial Trust awards dinner next month.
Sarah Jones, a former award recipient and now a teacher at RMIT University, will be the guest speaker at the dinner on 16 May, which is hosted by the Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills.
The Herb Thomas Memorial Trust was established in 1979 by the Rotary Clubs of Berwick, Pakenham and Narre Warren in conjunction with the former City of Berwick and the former Shire of Pakenham, to perpetuate the memory of the late Herb Thomas, who was the son of the founder of the Pakenham Gazette, and its editor for many years until he died in 1979.
The Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills became an official support of the trust in 1992.
The trust established a series of grants that assist graduates and students in media as well as in the many aspects of the printing industry, especially in regional newspapers.
The four Rotary Clubs, the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire Council continue to support the work of the trust with awards presented annually.
This year will make the 29th year of the annual awards dinner and will be held at the Dandenong Club, on the corner of Heatherton and Stud Road in Dandenong.
The cost to attend is $35 per person. Drinks are available at bar prices.
Members of the public wishing to attend the dinner should contact Sue Jolly at the City of Casey on 9705 5246 by 1 May reserve a seat.
