Tended to perfection

GARDEN lovers will be delighted later this month, when Narre Warren North resident Attila Kapitany opens his backyard to the public.
Each year, not-for-profit organisation Open Gardens Australia, presents the finest and most exciting private gardens to the public.
This autumn, the organisation is excited to present the garden of Mr Kapitany which he has maintained for 11 years.
The carefully designed garden displays an array of architectural agaves, aloes and yuccas artistically put together by the owner himself.
Attila and his wife Michelle purchased the property in 2002, and have created a haven which is home to wildlife and waterbirds.
The garden has evolved from a range of ideas, with the main one evident from the top of the property, where there is a vista of the backbone of the garden – an illusion of plants mostly flowing down to the lakes edge, like a river.
Thousands of plants now fill the garden and there is a never a bare spot in the land.
Owners work hard to look after the garden, but maintain that it doesn’t require too much work.
The garden always includes a diverse array of plants, ranging from water-wise plants, succulents, native trees, flaxes and grasses.
Almost every plant in the garden was grown from seeds or cuttings which the owners have raised themselves, all except a large central bottle tree.
At this time, the main feature of the garden is the unusual sky blue-stemmed acacias, as well as the Australian bottle trees, the chorisia speciosa and vertical stone installation. This installation provides height and highlights in a series of interconnected terraced garden rooms.
Attila Kapitany’s garden at ,1 The Lough Court, Narre Warren North, will be open between 10am and 4.30pm on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April.
Entry is $7 and children under 18 are admitted free.
