MEMBERS of the City of Casey community reflected on Tuesday, when an Anzac service was held to honour the 98th year since the solidiers landed at Gallipoli.
This was the first of many memorial services held throughout the City of Casey.
The Dandenong and Cranbourne RSL Sub-Branch hosted the service at the Endeavour Hills cenotaph.
Members of the community, school students, local politicians and various community groups attended the service which honoured the fallen Diggers.
City of Casey Councillor Rosalie Crestani was a guest speaker at the service, and spoke of noble, young men who fought to save the land which exists today.
“The Anzacs were the first to fight for the newly federated country,” she said.
“Most of them just boys.”
“We honour those who fought hard for our freedom.”
At the conclusion of Cr Crestani’s speech, various local politicians, students and members from the Victorian Police were invited to lay wreaths, after which a minute’s silence was held. Other Anzac services are also being held throughout the City of Casey, including Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Berwick and Pearcedale.
See next week’s Berwick and Cranbourne News for these commemorations and coverage of services.
