Shrinking opportunity

By BRIDGET SCOTT

A CRANBOURNE North woman has a new lease on life after losing 65 kilograms in two years.
At 34 years of age, Sophie De Silva decided it was time for a change, and now aged 36 she has never been happier.
The Narre Warren South Weight Watchers member said she knew she had to do something but struggled to commit to losing weight.
“I was not committed enough to stay focused,” she said.
“(And) I think that is really the key.”
Finally, Sophie dedicated herself to turning a new leaf for her life.
She said she knew something had to change.
“By looking at myself in the mirror, I knew I had to do something,” the mother of three said.
“It was definitely something I needed to do for myself, and for my family.”
Sophie said seeing herself progress was enough to keep her motivated.
Sophie said she now has a completely different outlook on things.
“When we are going out, I am more thoughtful about what I choose to eat,” she said.
Sophie said in the past she wouldn’t consider the nutrient value of food on the menu, but certainly pays attention to it now.
What makes Sophie’s journey more remarkable is her occupation, which has not made her weight loss voyage any easier.
Sophie’s leader at Weight Watchers Bec Pallowe, said her client is always resisting temptations.
“Her job is as a cook for a childcare centre so she is constantly around food,” Bec said.
Sophie said she has learned a lot in the past two years and urges anyone who wants to do a similar thing to remain committed.
