TWO teachers from Narre Warren South P12 College will be reaching for their beanies this month as they prepare for an extra cold winter.
School principal Robert Casamento and Year 7 teacher Sarah Davies lost their locks to raise money for Tyler Fishlock, last week.
The 10-year-old Caroline Springs resident was first diagnosed with cancer in 2006, and since then has lost both his eyes.
Then, at the start of this year, Tyler was diagnosed with secondary cancer and has begun chemotherapy rounds once again.
The college has been supporting Tyler since they first heard about his misfortune nearly seven years ago.
The school has raised around $15,000 for Tyler and his family which has gone towards funding his first braille machine, as well as medical expenses.
The latest shave was done in an effort to allow Tyler’s parents to be able to spend more time with him.
His mother Georgette said she hugely appreciated the help from the school and the recent fund-raising will allow her husband to take time off work to be by Tyler’s side.
“It has taken a burden off both our backs and given us breathing space,” she said.
“It will help Brad stay home from work, so he can spend every second with him,” she said.
Mr Casamento said he had a great feeling.
“I have never done such a thing,” he said.
“You feel very different.”
Mr Casamento described it as a small gesture.
“If we can do one little thing, it can make their life a little easier,” he said.
“It is great that we can make a contribution in such a simple way.”
