Guildes’ hard work pays off

By BRIDGET SCOTT

THE hard work of two Narre Warren North Girl Guides members will pay off next month.
Kelly Liebelt and Brittany Grimshaw, both 13, will be presented with badges at a presentation at the guide hall on Saturday 6 July.
Brittany will be presented with her Junior BP Badge, while Kelly will receive her Silver Endeavour Badge.
Both of these badges are representative of the hard work both teenagers have completed over the past 12 months.
While Kelly is in her eighth year of guides, and Brittany her sixth, both girls have worked on personal challenges in the past year to get them where they are today.
Kelly’s mother Marise is very proud of her daughter’s efforts.
“Kelly has achieved a lot,” she said. “For such young girls, it’s amazing how much work they do.”
Marise explained that although the work involved in the badge is hard, it offers the youths a lot of opportunities.
“They do so much – they can go caving and abseiling,” she said. “There are lots of personal challenges.”
The Silver Endeavour Badge which Kelly will be presented with marks her achievement as being half way towards her BP badge – the next badge above the junior BP Badge.
A guide assistant at the hall, Anne Rem explained that the achievements were ’a really big deal.’
“We have not had anyone added to our honour plaque at the hall since 1996,” she said.
“These girls really are to be commended on their fantastic achievements.”
Anne also emphasised that these are not easy accomplishments.
“They are quite complex and are designed to really push them,” she said.
