ABOUT 600 items of food were donated to a soup kitchen by Narre Warren students.
The Junior School Council at Mossgiel Park Primary School undertook a local community project to collect food for the Transit Soup Kitchen in Narre Warren.
The kitchen is run from the Narre Warren Christian Church and is run by volunteers.
The kitchen provides groceries and a three-course meal twice a week to those in our community who are in need including pensioners, single-parent families, those with disabilities and others who are going through a tough time.
Four senior Junior School Council representatives attended the soup kitchen recently to distribute all the food collected which included 54 cans of baked beans and spaghetti, 104 cans of vegetables, 104 cans of tuna, 68 packets of pasta and much more.
The students also helped serve the lunchtime meal.
Mossgiel Park Primary School welfare officer Lyn Pentland said the project was “extremely well supported” by the school community.
“Over a two week period each class collected a range of non-perishable food items,” Ms Pentland said.
“Families were very generous with their donations and the Junior School Council Community project was a huge success!”
