Giving and not receiving

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

AFTER going close to two days without food for last year’s 40-hour famine, Mahnaz Shilani realised she could do even more to help those less fortunate than her.
Fast forward to 2013 and Ms Shilani from Narre Warren is preparing to fly to Kenya in less than a fortnight to give more back to the underprivileged African community.
“I will be in Kenya from 5 August until 20 August for volunteering works at an orphanage to look after orphans or street children,” Ms Shilani said.
“During my stay I will be giving up food for 120 hours to feel what it’s like to truly starve and what it’s like for people in Africa who have no choice but to go without.”
Through UNICEF and Everyday Hero Australia, Ms Shilani hopes to raise as much money and support as she can for the Kenyans that she will be caring for.
“By your generous donation you will be supporting UNICEF projects in Africa to help families to obtain access to food and clean water,” Ms Shilani said.
“The more people that know about UNICEF Australia, the greater their impact.”
