THE Cranbourne Narre Relay For Life will hold a launch night this weekend where the community can find out how it can help with the fight against cancer.
The Relay For Life will be held on 23 and 24 November this year at EG Allen oval in Cranbourne.
An information session will be held tomorrow night (Friday) to launch the event at the Balla Balla Community Centre from 7pm.
The community will have the opportunity to find out more and register for the event, hear a presentation from the Cancer Council Victoria and meet the organising committee.
Relay For Life community engagement co-ordinator Emily Groszek urged people to get involved in the event to raise funds for the Cancer Council of Victoria so that research into finding a cure for cancer can continue.
“In the City of Casey alone over 920 people were diagnosed with the disease last year,” she said.
“This enormous figure means that we all have been touched in one way or another by this insidious disease.
“We all know someone – a relative, friend, sibling or colleague – that has had or is surviving cancer.
“We are asking you all to give some thought to getting a team together, or joining a team, and taking part in the 20-hour Cranbourne-Narre Relay For Life and walking to further the eradication of cancer.”
The relay will start at 4pm on Saturday 23 November and will continue until noon on Sunday 24 November.
Registration cost $20, which includes a relay T-shirt.
The event will include performances from local bands, singers and dancers, as well as interactive yoga, Tai Chi and Zumba sessions.
There will be a free breakfast provided to all participants and food and coffee sold by various vendors, who each donate part of their profits back to the relay.
