Warriors have dig at Miners

THE Monash Warriors showed their class against the Berwick Miners in their Gridiron Victoria Division 1 clash on Sunday, coming away with a 44-6 win and cementing their place near the top of the standings.
Berwick coach Mel Martin was optimistic that his side would put in a good showing against its heavily-favoured opponents on enemy soil at Clayton’s Monash University Campus, but the Miners simply couldn’t match the Warriors’ intensity – with the dam wall eventually breaking in a rout, on the scoreboard at least.
The result leaves the Miners in fifth and last spot in a particularly competitive Division 1 race, with four wins from their 10 games so far this season.
With the finals essentially out of reach for the Casey side, the last two weeks of their home-and-away season will be about salvaging pride.
They will face the Western Crusaders this Sunday morning from 10.30am at Brens Oval at Royal Park on Macarthur Road in Parkville.
The Miners will then close out their season the following Sunday afternoon from 1.30pm at their Sydney Pargeter Reserve home against long-time rivals the Croydon Rangers.
