Relationship rev up

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

THE Reverend John McMahon knows about wandering off the track in life, and he’s now made it his aim to keep young people on it.
Rev McMahon, who created community group Motorv8 in 2009, works closely with young adults in schools, sporting clubs and youth groups to cope with what life throws at them.
The most recent example is Motorv8’s upcoming father and son event at Autobarn, Narre Warren, this month.
The event will focus on sons strengthening their relationships with their fathers, which is part of Rev McMahon’s mission to help young adults.
“I saw a need to create some alternative seminars and workshops to navigate young adults,” he said.
“With this one we are tapping into Father’s Day and the importance of fathers.
Fathers often find themselves absent physically, absent emotionally or absent morally.”
Motorv8’s father and son event will be held on Wednesday 28 August from 7pm to 9pm and is open to dads, step-dads, uncles and boys aged 11 to 17.
Motorv8 encourages young adults to address the issues they face in life by combining seminars and workshops with hands-on motorbike displays.
“Young kids often need emotional support and I talk to them about emotional intelligence, to think over a decision before they make it,” Rev McMahon said.
“We teach boys how to arrest their thoughts.”
