GEORGIA Cummings has pedalled her way into the Victorian cycling team following a dominant performance at Wangaratta on the weekend.
Georgia, 13, from Endeavour Hills, earned her spot on the Cycling Victoria Junior 15 Women’s team – set to compete at the 2013 Australian Junior Road Championships in Wagga Wagga next month.
Her blistering times in Wangaratta last weekend ensured her spot and Georgia was thrilled to make her first state road team.
She won the Junior 15 Women individual time trial in 18.07 minutes ahead of club team mate Alana Field, and finished second to Alana in the state junior road race.
“I was probably a bit nervous, but not too much as I’ve been doing really well at the time trials,” Georgia said.
“When it came to it I was still nervous for it but still managed to pick up the win.
“I was pretty happy.”
Her achievements prove even more staggering as she’s under-age in the under-15 group and will compete again next year in that category.
While she prefers track cycling, namely the pursuit, she’s thrilled to take the wins on the road and aim towards higher goals.
Cycling is in the Cummings blood, with Georgia’s older brother Jack winning a world junior track championship and now racing professionally in Germany.
Seeing her brother’s success has inspired Georgia to aim for the same and she wants to win a rainbow jersey of her own in years to come.
“I just sort of want to be a bit like my brother and win the team pursuit at junior worlds like he did,” she said.
Georgia’s trained by one of Australia’s best coaches, professional cyclist Hilton Clarke, and wanted to thank him for his help to reach nationals.
The championships run from 6 to 8 September.
