GUSTY winds, access issues and angry bees challenged fire-fighters as a blaze engulfed a Doveton home Monday night.
The single storey brick house in Robin Close was well alight when Hallam and Dandenong CFA crews responded at about 11.25pm on 30 September.
Wild wind fanned flames and fuelled thick smoke, obscuring visibility during the fire attack.
Low water pressure forced fire-fighters to lay additional hose lines to an adjoining street and a large number of items stored in the backyard blocked access.
Senior station officer Greg Chapman directed crews to work the fire from the back via a neighbouring metal fence.
They also had to dodge bees disturbed from their hives and this prevented access to one side of the structure, but they were able to stop the fire spreading to an adjoining home despite the challenges.
Paramedics treated the home owner at the scene.
Fire investigators are still to determine what caused the blaze.
