Hills Lions mark milestone

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A VERY special birthday was celebrated last month with a very special birthday cake.
On Friday 27 September, the Lions Club of Endeavour Hills celebrated its 30th Charter Anniversary at the Stamford Hotel, with a wide range of people in attendance.
Members from the Lions clubs of Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Balla Balla came along, as well as members from the Endeavour Hills Lioness Club.
President Pauline Spry said the anniversary celebrations were a great success.
“It was fantastic,” she said.
“The District Governor spoke about the club and its achievements and charter John James spoke of the early days of the club.”
In addition to the cutting of a very impressive birthday cake, District Governor David Barnes presented Mr James with a 30th Charter Monarch award.
Ms Spry said the Lions Club had gone from strength to strength throughout its 30 years.
“Giving back to the community can be hard unless you’re part of an organisation,” she said.
“We get to meet like-minded people working with your club.”
Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon also attended the anniversary celebrations, along with councillor Geoff Ablett and Victoria Police Acting Senior Sergeant Duncan Bartley, and congratulated the club for its work within the community.
Ms Stapledon praised the song performed at the 30th anniversary, titled, ‘We Can Help’, which described the true story of a man who was helped in hard times by the Lions Club of Endeavour Hills.
“It was very moving, especially as it was written about a real life story of how the Endeavour Hills Lions helped a man left to raise his children with no furniture or food,” she said.
“The help that the Lions gave him turned his life around and he is now doing really well. This is what community groups such as the Lions are all about.”
