Climbers in action

UP TO 100 climbers will converge on Casey next week when Lynbrook hosts the Victorian Tree Climbing Championships.
Tree climbers from across Australia and New Zealand will compete for a chance to claim the Victorian Champions title at the Banjo Patterson Reserve, in Lynbrook, on Saturday 9 November.
The community is invited along to watch the free event and cheer on the climbers in the four classes – Men’s Masters, Women’s Masters, Men’s open and Student Grade.
The event itself will comprise a series of five climbing tests to assess climber’s ability to manoeuvre safely and quickly through a tree. These events are the Work Climb, Aerial Rescue, Secured Footlock, Throwline and Speed Climb.
On the day, spectators can also enjoy a marketplace style atmosphere and fun for the whole family including a supervised tree climb for children.
City of Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon said they were thrilled that Casey had been chosen to host such a unique and exciting event, by organiser the Victorian Tree Industry Organisation (VTIO).
“Casey boasts some of the most beautiful reserves in Victoria and it’s wonderful to see that they have been recognised by the VTIO in receipt of this event,” she said.
“This event is an excellent opportunity to watch industry professionals showcase their specialised tree climbing skills so close to home.”
The event will run from 8am to 4pm on Saturday 9 November.
