A SENIOR Casey Police Inspector has slammed attacks against Protective Services Officers (PSOs) following an assault in Berwick last week.
Two PSOs were assaulted at Berwick station in Reserve Street on Thursday after they approached a 30-year-old man with an open can of alcohol.
The man refused to give his name to the officers and started throwing punches and wrestling with them.
Both PSOs were injured in the attack, sustaining a bloody nose, a rib graze and eye and elbow swelling.
The attacker, in his 30s, was arrested and later released pending charges.
Wayne Viney, Casey Police Inspector, said any assault on PSOs is an assault against the community.
“We want our PSOs and police to go home safely just like anyone else,” he said.
“The role of all PSOs and police is to make people in the community feel comfortable. Alcohol can affect this in a negative way.”
Insp Viney said last week’s assault was an isolated incident and that there was no trend with PSO attacks at Berwick station.
