Lotto luck Springs in Berwick

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A BERWICK newsagency drew its lucky numbers over the weekend after selling one of its customers a winning TattsLotto ticket worth over $1 million.
Des and Kate Davern, owners of Berwick Springs Lotto and News in Eden Rise Shopping Centre, were celebrating on Monday after they sold a division one TattsLotto ticket last week that was confirmed a winner in Saturday’s $4 million prize pool – a share worth $1.4 million.
Des, who along with his wife has run the store for 15 months, said this was the first division one win in Berwick Springs Lotto’s seven-year history.
“We’re very excited that we cracked it. We had a phone call from Tatts yesterday (Monday) morning,” he said.
“We usually look it up on the screen, but we were so busy.
“We finally broke the cycle of not being lucky. We have a Buddha on our desk and had been trying desperately for a bit of luck.”
There were three entries that won a first division share of Saturday’s estimated $4 million Tattersalls prize pool in draw 3371, each worth $1,405,750.90.
All three winning entries were purchased in Victoria, with one from Reservoir Lucky Lotto and one from Lucky Lotto Langwarrin Plaza, as well as Berwick.
Des said his store would now be supplied with a golden badge from Tattersalls to certify that it had sold a winning ticket.
“It means a lot, now we can spread that we’re lucky,” he said.
“Most Tatts stores have a large gold badge, which indicates it sold a winning ticket. Once we put up the badge, it will make a difference.”
The family that purchased their winning 18-game QuickPick entry from Berwick Springs Lotto and News, who didn’t want to be named, told a Tatts official that they were overwhelmed with the news.
“I just started screaming as soon as I checked our ticket against the TattsLotto results,” the local mother said.
“I didn’t believe we’d really won $1.4 million until I got this phone call from Tatts!”
The winning numbers on Saturday were 20, 32, 27, 28, 2 and 16 with the supplementary numbers of 8 and 7.
