A CASEY teenager is one of 100 passionate agriculture students from across the country chosen to take part in a conference next month.
Hillcrest Christian College student Rachel Cavallo has been selected to take part in University of New England (UNE) inaugural Generation 2050: Agriculture and Science Conference.
Rachel will travel to the university in NSW to take part in the four-day conference where she will get to experience life at UNE, farms and orchards and takes part in some science experiments.
Rachel said she had to write an essay on ‘how to feed the world by 2050’ to apply for the conference.
She said she wanted to be involved in the program for a number of reasons.
“Out of this experience, I was hoping to experience university life at UNE as I wish to attend university there,” she said.
“I also want to get a feel for the type of course I want to get into as we are attending the School of Environmental and Rural Science.
“I also want to meet new people who have the same areas of interest as me.
“I am most looking forward to all of the different practical investigations we are going to do and travelling to the different farms.”
Rachel said she was excited to take part in the conference and hoped it would give her some hands-on experience in the career path she hoped to pursue.
“I love everything about agriculture and horticulture and I have since I was three years old,” she said.
“I’ve grown up around animals, so it’s always been a love of mine, and I do wish to have a career in it.”
