A BIG group of Berwick toddlers spent a very special day with students from Berwick Seconday College last month.
Berwick Secondary and Edrington Park Childcare Centre and Kindergarten were both successful in applying for a NAB Schools First Seed Funding award last month and both parties were involved with the Adidas Schools Fun Run.
Around 120 children from the childcare centre walked over the Bryn Mawr Reserve to participate in the run, while 25 VCAL students from Berwick Secondary assisted with the set-up, catering, face-painting and ball games, including tug of war, tunnel ball and ball games.
Despite the weather being chilly, the kinder kids and older students enjoyed a very fun day.
Adam, a year-12 student from Berwick Secondary, said the fun run was a great success.
“It required a lot of planning and getting the children safely across the road was a big job but seeing their happy faces, all dressed in their team colours, made all the work worthwhile,” he said.
In addition to the fun run, children from the kindergarten had already been visiting Berwick Secondary College to make small projects with the VET students. The focus was on Occupational Health and Safety in the workshop, with the kinder kids being shown how to use the tools safely and appropriately.
