Fans give drivers a boost

FORD Performance Racing’s quartet of drivers enjoyed strong local support when they visited Freeway Ford in Cranbourne recently in the lead-up to the Phillip Island round of the V8 Supercars Championship.
More than 100 diehard fans greeted Ford’s four official drivers – two of which are championship contenders – and spent an hour chatting with them and getting an autograph or two from their heroes.
The visit led to a successful weekend for the team, with Alex Davison and this year’s Bathurst 1000 winner Mark Winterbottom both recording podium finishes.
Winterbottom is still in with a shot at this year’s championship title.
He heads into this weekend’s season-ending Sydney 500 124 points behind series leader Jamie Whincup (2815 points) and 20 behind Craig Lowndes (2795).
“When we make appearances at Ford dealerships, we know we are going to be greeted by our most passionate fans,” Winterbottom said.
“Our trip to Freeway Ford was no different and as we only get down to the south-east once a year the turnout is always good.
“It’s great to get that extra bit of motivation from our fans ahead of each event.”
