A NARRE Warren South student has been awarded a scholarship for her fighting spirit and leadership qualities, just like the woman who the honour was named after.
Each year Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley presents the Denese Bartlett Memorial Scholarship to a female year-11 student from Narre Warren South P-12 College.
The scholarship is in honour of Denese Bartlett, a local mother who, while fighting cancer, led the campaign for the establishment of Narre Warren South P-12 College.
This year’s recipient was Rebecca Fischer, who Ms Graley said displayed outstanding leadership qualities and become a role model to her classmates.
“Rebecca has been involved in leadership positions since her first class captaincy position in grade three and has recently been appointed as one of the school captains for 2014,” she said.
“Such is her commitment to helping others, Rebecca is now planning a mentoring program for year six students facing the transition to high school next year.
“In addition, Rebecca has organised a number of fundraising events and activities at school for a variety of good causes.
“There is no doubt the fighting spirit of Denese Bartlett lives on in our exceptional Rebecca and I know she will continue to play in important leadership role within our community.”
