Drugs lab charges

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

A BERWICK man has been remanded in custody and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in May following the discovery of an alleged drugs lab last week.
The Berwick man was one of three arrested by police on Tuesday 28 January.
The alleged clandestine lab was found disassembled in a property in Anne Street, Berwick, where a large quantity of methamphetamine, a firearm, ammunition and liquid and gas chemicals were also allegedly found.
Explosives were also allegedly discovered at the property and had to be transported by a Victoria Police arson chemist.
Police also allege that a stolen boat, 10 stolen chainsaws and an amount of other stolen property were found at the residence.
The 27-year-old Berwick man, a 32-year-old Pakenham man and a 38-year-old man from Upper Beaconsfield were taken into custody at 9.30pm on 28 January.
The Pakenham man was charged and released on bail to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court in March.
The man from Upper Beaconsfield was released pending further inquiries.
Casey CIU Detective Senior Constable Simon Watts said some of the chemicals allegedly found were dangerous to people’s health and urged the public to always contact Crime Stoppers if they see or smell anything unusual in their area.
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
