Curly Haired Folker from… Dover!

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

TWO acclaimed musicians will be making their way to the Berwick and District Folk Club (Badfolk) this month for a night of beautiful music.
The international quota is being fulfilled by English-born Stuart Pendrill – the ‘Curly Haired Folker from Dover’.
Stuart Pendrill is a singer songwriter who has long been entertaining audiences in folk clubs in and around the South East of England. He is now gaining wider recognition through his performances at festivals and clubs across the country.
With a large repertoire of self-penned classic and familiar songs, amassed over many years of performing, he delivers a relaxed and humorous performance.
“I’m doing the thing I love,” Stuart said, when asked why he keeps performing.
Joining Stuart is Patrick Evans, a guitarist and fiddle player who grew up playing folk music in Geelong before relocating to Melbourne. Once in the city, Stuart became well-known for his work fixing Maton Guitars.
Over the years he has played alongside many great artists including Danny Spooner, Ross Ryan, Hugh McDonald, Janette Geri, Marcia Howard and recently Suzette Herft. Patrick is also well known for his time in various bands including Fiddlestix, Pure Genius and The Wrenboys.
Patrick’s musical roots are firmly in the Celtic music tradition but he is equally at home playing a Beatles song or jazz standard. He is also an accomplished songwriter and solo performer with the broad repertoire that comes from such a depth of musical experience.
The music event will be held on Friday 21 February at The Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick, from 7.30pm. The night will cost $10 for guests or $7 for members and spot acts. Contact Christine and Edward for bookings on 9702 1223.
Badfolk is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers supporting acoustic music, for more information visit www.badfolk.org.
