WITH the new year well and truly underway, primary schools across Casey have recognised the young up and coming leaders at their schools.
James Cook Primary, in Endeavour Hills, and Fountain Gate Primary both held leadership assemblies for their students, presenting them with captaincy badges and preparing them for what is expected to be a rewarding but busy 2014.
At a special assembly last Thursday, James Cook Primary students were awarded their badges by the grand illusionist Cosentino, who was enlisted to speak to the students by Principal Kathy Sharp.
“I introduced Cosentino and he spoke to the students for 10 minutes about leadership and their upcoming roles,” Ms Sharp said.
“He spoke about his life and his family. When Cosentino was a kid his parents asked him what he wanted to do and he said he’d always wanted to do magic.”
School captains, house captains, music captains, members of the student representative council and a range of other roles were recognised at the James Cook assembly.
Ms Sharp said the leaders and future leaders of the school listened attentively to Cosentino and could be heard chatting about the assembly well after it had finished.
“The Grade 5 and 6 students especially, they understand they have to pave the way for success,” Ms Sharp said.
“We were very lucky to have Cosentino spend some time with us to really connect with the students.”
Across the way, Fountain Gate Primary Assistant Principal Michelle Granland applauded the new leaders of her school.
“They write their own speeches and present them to all of the students in their level, who then vote to elect their leaders,” she said.
“At a whole school assembly the house captains and vice house captains were presented with their badges by the Fountain Gate Secondary School captains.”
