In Step with Keira

By LACHLAN MOORHEAD

WHILE a Narre Warren mother steps closer to funding overseas treatment for her daughter who struggles to walk or talk, she is calling on the Casey community for much-needed support.
Five-year-old Keira suffers from symptoms of global developmental delay and her mum, Jodie, is trying to rally as much support as she can for her daughter through her self-made charity Steps for Keira.
Next month, Jodie will hold a special fund-raising night for Keira in order to help fund her American TheraSuit therapy later this year.
The Elvis tribute fund-raiser will be held at the Arthur Wren Hall in Hampton Park on Friday 4 April from 7pm to 11.30pm and will include a host of entertaining guests, from Andrew Portelli and The Medley Boys to the Melbourne Transformers, who are all donating their time.
Jodie said proceeds from the night will go directly to Keira’s treatment, which will also include hyperbolic oxygen therapy.
“We’re not looking for money for flights, all the money we raise is going to Keira’s therapy,” she said.
“We’ve had a lot of people say ‘no’ to us because we’re not a big enough charity, but we’ve had smaller companies get on board and we’re looking for as much support as possible.”
Keira suffers from symptoms common with those who have cerebral palsy, but she has never been officially diagnosed with anything.
The five-year-old has already experienced preliminary TheraSuit therapy in Melbourne, but Jodie is taking her to Michigan where the technology originated to receive comprehensive treatment for two months.
