Mike Tyler, CEO of the City of Casey, recently ruled out quotas as a method of ensuring there is cultural diversity within this council into the future (Casey Rules Out Quotas, News, 10 April).
Mr Tyler explained that council is bound by the Local Government Act and, as manager, he is obliged to follow such guidellines.
However, Mr Tyler’s recent history highlights that as CEO he has presided over a council with one of the lowest ratings, he also kept his position as CEO without it being advertised (on more than one occasion) which is outside local government guidelines and he supports using $125 million of ratepayers’ money to build ivory towers.
So management skills, following protocols and common sense are not Mr Tyler’s strong points. Maybe quotas are the way to go?
